Found just on the outskirts of Silverlakes, you can leave behind those city blues for a day of fun, food, and entertainment at this quirky country-side market. It’s a not-to-be-missed market on Pretoria’s ever-expanding gourmet food market scene.
The Cowhouse Market
Set up in what used to be a farm’s milking parlour, the Cowhouse Market has a one-of-a-kind countryside atmosphere. The market successfully combines the popularity of gourmet food markets with the old-school charm of flea markets. You will find over 42 stalls – and counting – to explore. Gourmet food, refreshing drinks, and exciting crafts and homeware can all be found at the Cowhouse Market. Their website highly recommends visiting their top-pick stalls – Pan and Knife, Fish Stop, and Hazeldean Brewing Company.
The market is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 pm to 4 pm. Every last Saturday of the month includes a Saturday night market that is open until 10 pm – so you can stay out until the cows come home, so to speak.
But shopping and gourmet food are not the only things that the Cowhouse Market has to offer…!
While you mosey around the market, you can also enjoy live entertainment. Every Saturday and Sunday brings live music for the folks at Cowhouse to enjoy while the shop or chow down. And the entertainment does not end at musical acts! The Cowhouse Market hosts a variety of events for all sorts to enjoy. From craft beer festivals to trail runs and yoga to movie nights. There is undoubtedly a ton of fun entertaining events in the pipeline for 2019! See their Facebook Events Page for an up-to-the-minute list of events for you to attend.
The Cowhouse Market is a family venue and it certainly shows! Your kids will simply adore this place – and so will you! It has tons of activities to keep kids entertained while providing them with some quality outdoor fun. The kid’s play area at the market includes a jumping castle, jungle gyms, and a water slide. There are also pony rides, a kid’s bicycle track, and an 800m cycle park for older kids (so remember to bring your bikes). There is also a Daily Duck Race for the kids to participate in and win prizes. The Cowhouse Market is a fantastic place for kids to let loose and enjoy playing outdoors in a safe, family-friendly environment.
Cowhouse Gives Back
While you can support local entrepreneurs when visiting the market, Cowhouse also does their part by giving back to the community. They donate a percentage of their bottled water profit to Club 21 School. They also make an effort to recycle water used during the Duck Race, aiding the creation of a sustainable and environmentally conscious event.
So, if you are looking for some weekend fun, we recommend that you check out the Cowhouse Market. It’s just far enough away from the city to give you a breath of fresh air and a few moments to relax. Take your friends and your family along and enjoy a wholesome day together making memories.
