Fokof Bar: Open For Business

In August of last year, the famed frontman, Francois Van Coke, of the incendiary Afrikaans punk rock group, Fokofpolisiekar, confirmed a tidbit about their upcoming ventures which made all party-hardy diehard fanatics jump for joy. If you’re still not sure what what I’m talking about, listen up.

The notorious Bellville native sons from the rock and roll band, who celebrated fifteen years in the industry last year, have been building and developing their very own recreational hangout right here in the capital city for some time now. We’re happy to report that work is finally completed. The grand opening was this past Saturday, the 2nd of February. It had its soft opening a week prior to that, but the brand spanking new Fokofpolisiekar-styled barroom is now officially been opened for business.

The launch was a massive weekend affair, attended by all the original band members and known associates. They joined the crowd, and also DJ’d the proud event well into the night. One of the prime pathfinders of the Fokof Bar is the Fokof Lager vanguard and Polisiekar drummer, Jaco Snakehead Venter, combined with and accompanied by Robert Pereira from the well known Arcade Empire brand. The extensive and delectable menu on offer features a tasty selection of starters, burgers, sides, and mains, which were all on special for the grand opening. On Sunday, the actual house that rock and roll built, also played host to the official Park Acoustics After Party.

The aptly applied old school and dark dive bar aesthetic of the rock band’s original haunt makes for a warm but idiosyncratic sense which could only ever be emitted from an establishment designed and run by the Polisiekar boys themselves. It prides itself on being closely themed after the gang’s style, music, and story. The newly opened Fokof Bar is located on Lynnwood Road in the stretch between Brooklyn Road and Atterbury Road, which is colloquially known as “the strip”, said to be developing as a new stomping ground for local partygoers and youngsters. The Fokof locale is the first of two new nightlife spots amongst several other older venues in the area. The bar comes as a welcome addition as there are hopes of it stimulating further growth in the strip and the city’s social and entertainment dynamic setup.

Fokof Bar will open daily for trade from the 5th of February onwards at 10:00. Be sure to check and follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Find them at 297 Lynnwood Road in Menlo Park.
