You were born in Parys, lived in Bloemfontein and the UK for a few years, but consider yourself a Pretoria-girl. Tell us about that. Yes, I moved to Pretoria with my parents when I was fourteen years old, went to Menlo and studied at TUKS. After that we left for a few years but are thrilled to be back in the purple city – it is in our blood! I never lost my typical Pretoria accent either – still talk about Mô and Pô instead of Ma and Pa!
Describe your ideal night out in Pretoria. Jacques and I did a kind-of pub-crawl the other night – something that must have stuck form our time spent in the UK. We started with sundowners at the Silver Lakes Golf Club where they had some live music and a great vibe. We then popped in at a friend's house for a beer, had dinner at Beyritz and then went over to Rhapsody's where

the real fun started. There are so many great places and things to do in Pretoria – the ideal night for me is fitting in as much as I can!
You joined forces with Intercare to open the Centre for Sexual Health in Silver Lakes a year ago. What is it all about? Through my studies in Australia and working in the UK, I realised that there is a huge gap in the market and a great need for a Centre for Sexual Health in Pretoria. People need a place where they can get expert advice and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, get there pap smears done without having to wait for months for gynae appointments and get help for all kinds of sexual problems. The CEO of Intercare, Dr Hendrik Hanekom though it was a great idea and gave me the opportunity to open the Centre at the Silver Lakes branch.
Tell us about 2011 World Aids Day and why you are so passionate about it. Jacaranda FM, Intercare and Dis-Chem are joining forces again this year to provide free HIV testing on World Aids Day (1 December) at all our facilities. South Africa is the country in the world with the most people living with HIV – almost 6 million! HIV is no long the devastating killer it was a few years ago – the treatment is extremely effective and people live normal lives on it. For those reasons, each and every South African should get tested for HIV every year. We are just trying to make it easier by making it free on World Aids Day.
Why sexology? I still ask myself that question and get it from other people almost on a daily basis! Believe me, I never planned to go into sexual health when I started at medical school – I was way to decent for that! I started with my masters, because I wanted to be involved in policy making around HIV and anti-abortion legislation and then it turned out that it is really fulfilling to help people with their sex lives! When things go wrong in the bedroom, people usually have nowhere to go. I see it as my calling to provide them with the safe environment where their issues can be discussed and solutions for their problems can be found.
What is it like to be married to a cricket player? Nice. The best thing about it is the opportunities we have had to travel all over the world. Jacques is away from home a lot, but I use that time to concentrate on my work. We have a two week rule: I travel to wherever he is in the world so that we are never apart for more than two weeks. This has not always been possible – when we were married for 5 months, he had only spent ten nights at home!
Do you get along with the other cricket players' wives? Jacques has not been in the South African make-up for five years, but from what I remember, there is much more talk about shopping and make-up (which I am not great at!) and consuming of wine and sushi (which I am much better at!) going on than watching cricket! It is always great fun to get together.
You travel a lot (and rumour has it you're a real Tommy Tourist) what is your favourite destination? The best trip we have had was to Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera. These five tiny villages are built on the cliffs, overlooking the Mediterranean See and are all connected via walkways. You sleep late, eat the best authentic Italian food, drink the best local wine, sleep some more, swim in the sea and then have some of the good food and wine. La Dolce Vita!
