Janina Oberholzer

Your first Radio job was at TUKS FM before working at Jacaranda 94.2! Tell us a bit about your first years in student Radio...
That is where it all started really. I started on the graveyard shift (that's where we all started), and then moved on to co-host the Bang-Bang Breakfast for a few years. If you want to get into radio, campus radiois the best way to start. Some of my best radio years were spent at Tuks FM. I had the time of my life.

What is the famous 'NEXT' button in Radio?
Hahaha! It's a lifesaver. When anything goes wrong in the studio, you press the big green button. When in doubt, just press next!

How did you and Frankie meet?
We met when we both still worked for Tuks FM, but only became good friends when I started to work at Jacaranda 94.2.

What did you study?
I studied BA Drama at the University of Pretoria. Spent some of my best years in front of the Masker Theatre and in Oom Gert se Plek. I also made friends for life.

You have an extreme Rugby knowledge, how did this happen?

I have always had a passion for rugby and sport in general. I entered Supersport's Lady Rugga, and my sporting career took off from there.

This year was your first Oppikoppie experience! Did you enjoy it?
OH MY! How do people do it every year? I must admit that I did make a few rookie mistakes, but now I know. I had a blast. The bands were amazing! It was my first Koppi, but not my last...

Who is currently your favourite South African band and why?
I am a huge LARK fan, Inge has a brain I would love to pick. I also love Polisiekar, Jack Parow, Frankie Fire and Karen Zoid.

Give 3 reasons why it's great to stay in Pretoria this Festive season?
1. During the Festive season, you want to feel at home, and spend time with friends and family. Pretoria is my hometown, it's where I feel safe and at home. I wouldn't want to spend it anywhere else.
2. It's very peacefull in the Jacaranda City during the Festive season, everyone is away trying to find a good spot on a crowded beach somewhere.
3. Beacause everyone is away, there is no traffic, and you will always find a good parking spot at the local mall.

Do you have any New year's resolutions?
To make more time to spend with friends and family, and to do more charity work.

You are Vegetarian, give us a great vegetarian dish to make on Christmas day...
I make a mean green Thai curry! Coconut milk, veggies of your choice, curry paste and some Basmati rice. Winner every single time.

What do you think of Speedo's and Crocs on the Beach?
They should hand out spot fines for people wearing things like that in public. Nee sies man...

What is your beauty 'MUST HAVE' this Summer?
Good hair products. I'm in love with the Icon range. They have something for all hair types, and will keep your locks looking rad this summer.

When can we listen to the fabulous voice of Janina Oberholzer on Jacaranda 94.2?
You can catch me on The Martin Bester Drive every weekday from 4-7pm, and on a Sunday evening from 8-12pm.
