This book can be summed up in three words Sex, Drugs & Money.
Jordan Belfort, the infamous ill-fated genius stock-chopper of the 90s tells the story of his non-stop drug abuse, how he managed to sink his 170-foot yacht, crash a Gulfstream jet, land up in jail for fraud and finally lose his family.
It is an easy read and very entertaining but I was a little disappointed that he left out so much about how he managed to start up his company Stratton Oakmont and after only six years own one of the largest brokerage firms in Wall Street history. Jordan started working as a connecter at LF Rothschild making 500 phone calls a day, trying to get the business owners on the line only to pass the call to one of the brokers. He started his company a year later out of the electrical closet of a used-car dealership - and that is all we know.
What makes this autobiography so difficult to put down is that Belfort narrates his story of greed, power and how risks his life at every corner, consumes what seems to be a ridiculous amount of drugs and alcohol plus makes (and spends) more money than anyone can imagine.
You just can’t help but find him interesting! |
