The third PRETORIA.co.za Wine Club did not disappoint to deliver a superb evening of great wine and good food. Hosted at the stylish Cynthia’s Indigo Moon in the private upper dining room with its warm ambiance, the evening unfolded into an informative and fun affair. Georgio Meletiou, known as a wine presenter extraordinaire, did the exquisite wines of the Beau Joubert Estate great justice by exploring every fine taste nuance found in each glass. With his extensive expertise as professional wine presenter and sommelier, he was the perfect host for the evening.
For those who used to half-fake their way through a wine tasting, Georgio explained the wine tasting process in easily understandable steps, enlightening the uneducated. The evening was kick-started with a welcoming glass of soft Merlot-blend. The wine tasting proceeded with a crisp 2011 Sauvignon Blanc, followed by two robust reds – a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2009 Shiraz. It was concluded by an unexpected Pinotage blend 2007 Port.
Cynthia’s complimented the splendid choice of wines with innovative dishes including warthog carpaccio served with a summer salsa, fresh capers and balsamic reduction; a well matured 300g sirloin served with a cabernet jus and delicious desserts with choices such as Crème Brûlee or Tiramisu.
Situated in the beautiful Stellenbosch wine region, the Beau Joubert Estate was founded in 1795, first known as Veelverjaagt. Today a few dedicated families reside on the property, carrying on the fine wine making tradition started by the original Huguenot owners.
