KAMERS vol geskenke is a creative initiate, started 10 years ago. With the philosophy ‘share, support, believe’ they have created an artistic hub, where creativity can flow unhindered, to inspire and give local small businesses the opportunity to showcase their amazing handiwork to patrons very willing and eager to support them.
The concept originated in 2003, with humble beginnings in an empty house. It rapidly grew in popularity – the first event reaching 800 visitors, to last year’s events reaching all together 25 000 visitors. The first Pretoria event was hosted in 2010 and this year another location was added with Bloemfontein also hosting this amazing concept.
Only the best originally designed products – including home ware, jewellery and clothing, as well as gourmet food – are approved to be part of the initiative. This ensures high quality products to choose from and the general public is informed of the latest additions to the local creative business sphere.
“KAMERS is all about bringing creative people together by sharing and collaborating on ideas, supporting each other through honesty, tolerance and understanding, and believing in all of our ability and creative talent” says the organisers.
Each venue hosts the phenomenal creative exhibition for a week, with a recent new addition of an online store to their website. So if you miss the exhibition or want to rather invest in a special item later, you can now shop from the comfort of your home and pick up the lovely products from your local post office!
Started as a simplistic idea to promote creativity and original design, it has now grown into one of the most popular yearly exhibitions not to miss. The event hosted in Irene, at the Open Window Academy, almost doubled in exhibitor capacity from its Gauteng start in 2010. If attendance at the opening evening is a popularity gauge, this year’s event will again be a huge success.
