The Montana Family Market, situated across from Kolonnade Mall, has grown substantially since opening its doors in 2003. The permanent flea-market style destination has become a community hub for shopping and entertainment, and it’s still going strong in its 15th year of business. It’s certainly not difficult to see why this destination is so popular, so let’s check out what this market has to offer.
Shop ‘Til You Drop
The market boasts more than 500 stalls with all sorts of things on offer. While you mosey on down between the various stalls, you will find a ton of stuff, ranging from electronics, make-up, clothing, car and audio equipment, kids toys, luggage, jewellery and a ton of other shiny baubles. You may just find a good old Tamagotchi – who knows. You can even partake in one of the many services offered, which range from haircuts, printing, and also get your nails done.
Since it’s a flea-market style shopping complex, it’s every haggler’s dream. Even if you’re not quite the haggling type, you’re bound to find what you’re looking for at a stellar price – one of the many joys of flea-market shopping. You can check out their stall directory here.
Get Some Grub
One of the best things about market-style shopping is the food. While this is not a dedicated food market, you’ll be able to score some lunch. We can all probably agree that settling down for a tasty meal or treat after a long shopping expedition is a beautiful feeling. From coffee and pastries to pitas, chicken, pizza, ChesaNyama, and mini doughnuts – you should be able to find something tasty.
Keeping The Kids Entertained
The market sports a cool children’s play park that will keep your kids entertained while you walk about or have a snack. Apart from the play perk, they also have fun events for kids to partake in on the weekends and some weekdays.
These events include things like Easter activities, traditional fun-day games, and various arts and crafts activities. You can check out their upcoming children’s events here. Be sure to take the kids to partake in the future Easter activities if you have nothing planned yet. Kids will be treated to Easter Egg painting, treasure hunts, and a photo op with the Easter Bunny throughout the weekend.
Getting Your Groove On
Along with the various trinkets, baubles, and a plethora of other things on offer, many folks frequent this market for the artists who perform there. Live performances add a little spice to the weekend flea market vibe. Be sure to drop by to support local talent and up and coming artists.
Upcoming acts include the likes of Stephantasties, Abel Knobel, and Elvis se Seun, among many others. You may just see the next ‘big thing’ up there before they make it. You can see the upcoming music events here.
While it’s worlds away from the comfy, everyday shopping mall experience that we’ve all become accustomed to, it may be worth a look-see. If you feel like walking about in a flea market, check out the Montana Family Market and let us know what you think.
