Who is embracing the season with a beautiful winter wedding? If you put your hand up, we have one question for you: have you thought of how you’re going to keep the cold at bay? Yes, some of us enjoy the refreshing chill and layers of clothing but for others, it can be unbearable and a real damper. So, to keep you and your guests warm, check out these venues that have cosy fireplaces. Whether you are getting married in Johannesburg, Pretoria or Cape Town, we have you covered.
African Pride Irene Country Lodge – Irene
With sweeping oak-tree lined lanes, beautiful country surroundings, stone façade buildings, luxurious décor and the inviting fireplaces, African Pride Irene Country Lodge offers one of the most captivating settings for a winter wedding. You can also enjoy breathtaking views, overlooking lush meadows and one of Gauteng’s most stunning lakes. And if you want your guests to enjoy their country experience a little longer, why not consider booking a couple of English country manor-style en-suite rooms for an overnight stay after the reception?
Casablanca Manor – Donkerhoek
Would you love to get married against the backdrop of the spectacular African bushveld and rolling hills? Want to say your vows in a quaint, white chapel? Or how about walking down the aisle into the middle of a dam to meet your soon-to-be husband? Casablanca Manor is a truly unique wedding venue, situated away from the hustle and bustle of lively Pretoria. After your ceremony, stroll down a forest walkway scattered with rose petals into an intimate reception where you can welcome your guests. Then continue the celebration in the Old Manor House, complete with hot fireplaces and gas heaters to add a spark of romance and warmth.
Woodlands Game Lodge & Wedding Venue – Boekenhoutskloof
South Africa is all about the bushveld and wildlife and if incorporating these elements into your special day is what you had in mind, then consider planning your wedding at the Woodlands Game Lodge. This venue is a nature lover’s dream come true. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to have your wedding photos taken at scenic spots in the game reserve with their Photo Safari. And as for the reception venue, expect toasty fireplaces, picturesque views surrounding the lodge and more than enough space to make your dream wedding a reality.
Moon and Sixpence Country Venue – Muldersdrift
Situated on the Wedding Mile, Moon and Sixpence Country Venue offers a lovely venue if you are thinking of a garden wedding. The venue not only offers beautiful, secret hideaway gardens for your wedding photos and guests to appreciate, it also has two stunning settings for your special day. Take your pick from the Farthing Chapel & Hall nestled among the parterre gardens, lavender bushes and Mediterranean architecture, or the St Francis Chapel & Florin Hall complete with exposed wooden beams and exquisite surrounding gardens. Each venue is equipped with a fireplace to keep you and your guests warm.

Avianto – Muldersdrift
Another stunning wedding venue to consider on the Wedding Mile in Muldersdrift is the charming, romantic and elegant Avianto. They have two separate wedding venues, namely the Ballroom and the Banquet Hall. And no matter which venue you decide to use for your big day, each one has fireplaces to ensure that you and all your guests don’t feel the chill outside. Other than keeping everyone cosy, the crackling and flickering of the flames will create a snug and comfortable ambience. Who said that winter weddings have to be frosty?
Tres Jolie – Honeydew
Escape the city and say your “I dos” out in the country at Tres Jolie in Muldersdrift. The estate offers a choice of three venues depending on what you have in mind with regards to the theme and atmosphere. Once you have exchanged vows in the rustic yet elegant stone chapel (part of your venue hire), you can take the party to the Fountain Court or the Courtyard, both complete with roaring fireplaces, ceilings with exposed beams and beautiful wrought-iron candle chandeliers. This is perfect if you’re after a simple yet charming countryside winter wedding.
Towerbosch Restaurant & Wedding Venue – Stellenbosch
Are you and your fiancé both wine lovers? Then combine wine, a cosy fireplace and a farm-style venue to create your ultimate winter wedding. Towerbosch Restaurant & Wedding Venue is one of the Winelands’ best-kept secrets, beautiful and ready to use with no extra décor required. The down-to-earth concept is noticeable throughout the venue, from the bespoke ceiling chandelier made from farm twigs, painted white and embellished with vintage treasures, to its stunning location on the bend of a stream, surrounded by woods and sweeping lawns. Talk about a magical location.
Vondeling – Paarl
There is nothing more elegant than a Cape country wedding, and Vondeling offers just the place to bring your dream countryside nuptials to life. Say your vows in the St Clement’s Chapel, which boasts a beautiful fusion of old-world charm and modern simplicity with handmade stained windows and church bells. Then celebrate your newlywed status with a reception in their tasting room. Imagine high timber ceilings, Cape heritage accents, modern and simplistic décor, and the warmth of an inviting fireplace, flickering and snapping the background.
De Uijlenes – Gansbaai
Okay, so the location is a little out there (160km from Cape Town Airport), but once you see this venue, you’ll understand why we just had to add it to our winter wedding venue list. Who can resist a gorgeous winter forest wedding in a cosy log cabin or beautiful barn, complete with roaring fireplaces and all your loved ones? Sounds wonderful, right? De Uijlenes offers two venues – The Nightjar venue and the Forest & Old Barn venue – that are both ideal for your perfect winter wedding.
