Where To Eat This August 2018

Not too sure where to dine during the month of love? Well, whether you are making a reservation for two or hitting the culinary scene like Han - solo - we've got a little something something for you.

Forti Grill & Bar

Forti Grill & Bar opened to great acclaim in April this year. This latest addition to well-known chef Fortunato Mazzone’s list of dining establishments is a contemporary, fine dining ristorante. The bespoke décor is beautifully complimented by an exceptional Italian gastronomic experience. Forti Grill & Bar recently launched a brand new Terrace Menu that is served weekdays from 12 noon until 5pm. On the menu you’ll find classic terrace style food like Spaghetti Bolognese, Wagyu Beef Burger and Steak Roll and Chips. Banters have also been looked after with the Cauliflower Wrap with Vegan Stir Fried Veggies dish.

Sausage Saloon Kiosk

After 100 franchises, countless amounts of sausages and satisfied customers, it’s time for you to join the Sausage Saloon gang. The newly opened (well, sort of anyway) kiosk in Parkview Centre in Pretoria East offers all the popular hotdog choices we’ve come to love from this fast food joint. Take your pick from cheese grillers to frankfurters to corn dogs, and smother it with a selection of complimentary sauces and relish. Sausage Saloon doesn’t just make hotdogs – they make hotdogs awesome.

Yeah, yeah Kream has been around for more than a decade but that doesn’t mean it’s not popping off the top like a bucket of prawns on a hot day… Just go with that reference… it makes sense… somehow. The menu is made of the usual suspects but also includes a couple of interesting items such as gourmet sushi, sirloin biltong and blue cheese, confit duck and a Cape Malay veg curry. All of this is perfectly prepared by the super talented chef Morgan Kloos.

All the usual favourites like Kleftico (ALL UP IN YOUR BUSINESS), Moussaka (hmmmmmm), Grilled Prawns, lovely Linefish and Lamb Kebabs are still on the menu but diners can also enjoy some more modern options like the Fisherman’s Pasta and the Honey-Mustard Pork Fillet. Fancy a light lunch for two? The Toasted Pitas or Souvlaki are tasty quick bite options to gobble down during your lunch break. The Family Table shared meal is a splendidly sociable, and good value for money, order. Plaka is also rapidly gaining a reputation for dishing up some of the best halloumi cheese in the city… it is a Mediterranean joint after all.

Plaka is open seven days a week from 12 noon to 9pm.
