Hazel Food Market
This is one of the most popular food markets in Pretoria East. It happens from 08:00 to 14:00 every Saturday at the Greenlyn Village Centre in Menlopark. Make sure you get there early enough to ensure your favourites aren’t sold out! With wooden tables and benches in the middle of the market, it’s easy to imagine a social environment where people enjoy great food with good company. Every once in a while, the Market will reopen at 5pm for its installment of the Night Market – adding craft beers and gins to the market. With added string lights between the trees, the atmosphere is not only enjoyable, but also picturesque.
This family-friendly market brings a barnyard feel to your weekends. The Cowhouse Market is in Hazeldean, situated close to Silverlakes, and takes place on Saturdays and Sundays from 09:00 to 16:00. Besides the yummy food and local craft beer, Cowhouse also has live entertainment. Look out for their night markets as well.
Irene Village Market
Visit the Big Red Barn on a Saturday to enjoy the Irene Village Market! The Big Red Barn also offers trails for both runners and mountain bikers, perfect to get that appetite going. Although the market started as a craft market, it has bloomed into a market which offers delectable food offerings as well. The Irene Village Market is on the first and last Saturday of the month from 08:00 to 13:30.
The Pretoria Boeremark is not one to miss if you enjoy farm fresh produce and meat at a reasonable price. This is also the place to congregate over a cup of coffee and some vetkoek or pancakes. You can find the Pretoria Boeremark every Saturday morning from 05:30 to 09:30 at 665 Moreleta Street, Silverton. Yes it sounds awful to wake up on a Saturday before sunrise, but it is worth it. The market showcases the authenticity of South African favourites. Be sure to arrive early.
On the last Saturday of the month, you can find this hip market in the inner city at 012 central. The market runs from 11:00 to 20:00. Entrance for the market is R50 before 14:00 and R100 per person afterwards. The market features art, designers, live performances and exquisite crafted foods. Craft beer and delicious wine are also on offer here.
On the first Friday of the month at the CBC Old Boys Club, you’ll find the Deep Roots Night Market. The market features numerous food stalls offering delicious treats and has branched out to selling crafts, thrift clothing and even tattoos. There’s also live acoustic entertainment provided by local talented artists.
