When it comes to Mother’s Day, don’t believe Mom when she says “Ag don’t do anything special for me this year, hey?” Ignore that tenuous modesty, skrik wakker and rather take advantage of the many great spots around Pretoria you might want to take Mom to on 12 May.

If you have your mind made up about some favourite place you fancy, then all good. But if you’re scrabbling for ideas, these venues will literally make a meal out of your Mom’s deserved day.

Lagom Café

Situated in Lynnwood, Lagom Café gives moms the VIP experience on Mother’s Day. She’ll be feted with a free glass of wine and a mahala chocolate brownie for dessert. The venue offers something called a Razzle Dazzle platter that makes for a lekker, communal lunch with family, and TV presenter Leon Gropp will entertain young and old on the day. You’ll pay a set price of R250pp, and kids 12 or younger will cost only R80 for chicken strips – or a burger – and cooldrink.

LeSi Restaurant

In a similar vein, LeSi Restaurant at Casa Toscana in Lynnwood Manor will give you all a rollicking good time, with music and song accompanying a three-course meal. The festive nature of it all means you better book now! A welcome doppie, lunch and thrills lands at around R375pp, although kids are charged at only R150 (kids aged 4 – 8 years old) or as little as R50 (kids aged 2 – 4 years old).

The Barn Restaurant

Familiar to many, The Barn at Irene Village serves up a special ambiance and typically delicious fare every Mother’s Day. Named for the original building, The Barn is luxurious, spacious but relaxed and makes an ideal upmarket lunch date venue with Mom. On the day, they’ll serve a buffet lunch between 12pm and 3pm, but make sure you book yesterday to secure a spot.

Chapters Restaurant

For an opregte boere twist to Mother’s Day, Chapters in Centurion will do a braai buffet this Mother’s Day between 12pm and 3pm. Part of the Leriba Hotel Group, there will also be free wine tasting and, based on previous reviews, it all makes for a very geselige and happy lunch with Mom. Landing at R295pp, this is another venue where booking for the day is essential.

The Blades

The Blades in Kameeldrift will be laying it on thick for Mom this year, and they promise to treat her like royalty. There’s something for everyone in their bosveld buffet lunch offering, and although adults will pay R325pp, kids under 12 are charged at R150, and kids under 3 aren’t charged at all! Things will kick off from 11am, but wragtig here you have to book to get in on the day.

Waterkloof Guest House

Upping the ante for all venues this year, Waterkloof Guest House will host a three-course meal for Mom in their lovely garden setting. Along with the meal at around R380pp, comes a free welcome drink, live entertainment, a Mother’s Day gift and a family photo taken by the pros. Again – did we mention this before? – maak daai booking to avoid disappointment!

Kingsley’s Restaurant

Another countryside venue that makes for a wonderful Mother’s Day is Kingsley’s Restaurant at Kievitz Kroon Faircity Hotel in Kameeldrift East. A classic carvery buffet is on offer at R460pp with kids under 13 charged R210. There will be live entertainment, a special gift for Mom, a welcome drink thrown in, as well as special kiddies entertainment. Book immediately if you want a seat!

Zagora Grill Room

If Mother’s Day makes you feel all sweet and syrupy, Zagora Grill Room in Centurion has the dessert lineup to cater for your tastes! A hugely diverse menu lands at R395pp, although kids from 6 – 11 years-old only pay R195. They’re planning a Mother’s Day buffet lunch with a special focus on moms, so again book pretty much immediately if it takes your fancy.
