Top Comfort Food Spots In Pretoria

Whether you’re having a terrible day, feeling famished, or it’s merely Monday - nothing quite beats a good bite of a flavoursome meal. It’s great to have more than one go-to comfort food spot around town, so we’ve scoped out some of our favourite comfort food spots in Pretoria.

Chocolat et Cafe

This spot is a little piece of heaven if we’ve ever seen one. From delicious french toast with caramelised bacon and strawberries, gorgeous bruschetta and omelettes to ice cream sandwiches and excellent coffee (which you can drink from a sugar cone, if that’s your speed) – Chocolat et Cafe will give you the sweet, sweet comfort you crave. Though this is quite a small shop compared to the rest of the joints in the ever-popular Hazelwood, it packs quite the punch. If you are on the move, feel free to just drop by for some of their rich luxury chocolate or a slice of cake from their well-populated cake table.

Where? 12 16th St, Hazelwood, Pretoria

Capital Craft

Capital Craft pops up once again, and with good reason. If you need comfort food and a welcoming atmosphere, this is where you will get it. The portions are large, the prices are reasonable, and the food is hearty. On the menu you’ll find a choice of huge burgers, spicy jalapeno poppers, deep-fried biltong, delicious ribs, halloumi fries, filling platters, and so much more. Also be sure to check out their special offers which include all-you-can-eat ribs on Mondays and two-for-one burgers on Wednesdays.

Something’s Cooking by J’Something
Sometimes comfort means trying something different, and different is precisely what you will find in the J’Something concept kitchen in Time Square. The menu offers a plethora of different meals including fluffy bao buns with a choice of fillings, pork belly ramen, vegetable paella, and a tasty salmon poke bowl, among many other delicious choices. Don’t leave without grabbing one of the various desserts – baked beignets, flourless chocolate cake, and deep fried apple pie – and the list goes on.

Tasha’sBrooklyn or Menlyn Maine

Tasha’s is pretty popular amongst the Pretoria crowd, and we thought it deserved a spot on this list. A table at Tasha’s is where you can find a perfect, leisurely brunch, lunch, or dinner. Sit down for a good-old hummus toastie or pain perdu at brunch, paired with a delicious Lindt mocha latte. Enjoy a well-filled quesadilla, a gorgeous sandwich, or a healthy but delightful salad for lunch. Or revel in a hearty serving of shepherd’s pie, a warm soup, or one of their mouth-watering meaty mains for supper.

Vovo Telo is a go-to spot for many folks, and it’s definitely a cafe where you can find comfort in the food and the coffee, while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They offer a range of appetising meals on their menu, and they cater for everyone – the vegetarians, the meat lovers, the banters, and the vegans. All bread and pastries you’ll find here are made on-site and with love. They have a fantastic breakfast selection, tasty bagels, delectable pizzas, filling sarmies, and hearty meals such as bunny chows and home-baked pies for those who are a little more than peckish.
